This configuration guide explains how to configure the Algo 8201 IP PoE Intercom to work with PBXware v8.1
¶ Requirements
¶ Identifying the Device Model
To ensure successful registration, first verify the Algo device model.
The model information is located on the back of the Algo device. This guide applies specifically to the Algo 8201. Configuration steps may differ for other models, so verifying the device model before proceeding is required to ensure correct setup.
¶ Device Firmware
- Ensure your device has the appropriate firmware version: 5.6
- To verify the firmware version, open a web browser and enter the IP address of the Algo device to access the web administration interface. Example:
http://192.168.1.22 - Log in using the default password: algo.
- Navigate to System > Firmware.
- Under Installed Firmware, the Product Firmware field displays the device model and the currently installed firmware version.
¶ DHCP Server
Fully configured and operational DHCP server.
¶ PBXware Version
PBXware version: 8.1
To check the PBXware version:
- Log in to PBXware
- Navigate to Settings: About
At the top of the About page, you will see a code block similar to this:
PBXware Edition: Multi-Tenant, Release: 8.1 (387597b7), Running: 18.15.0.-gc-b47edc45, PBXware Proxy v8 (62b7bcd), API: 8, libmemcached version: 1.0.18
The Release field indicates the exact version of your PBXware.
¶ Installation
This section describes how to connect the device to power and the network, and how to restore the device to its factory default settings.

¶ Power over Ethernet (PoE)
The device supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), allowing both power and network connectivity to be provided through a single Ethernet cable.
- Connect an Ethernet cable between the device's Internet port and an available PoE-enabled port on the network switch or router.
- The PoE connection supplies both electrical power and network access to the device.
¶ Find the Device's IP Address
To access the device web interface, first identify the IP address assigned to the Algo 8201.
- Ensure the device is connected to a compliant PoE network switch and has completed the boot process.
- Press the Call button on the front of the device. The device will announce its current IP address through the speaker.
- Alternatively, the IP address can be identified using a network scanning utility.
¶ Reset to Factory Settings
This step is not required for new, out-of-the-box devices. However, if the device has been previously configured or used, a factory reset is recommended before proceeding.
To restore the Algo 8201 to factory default settings:
- Reboot or power cycle the device.
- Wait for the blue Call button to begin flashing.
- Press and hold the Call button until it starts flashing in a double flash pattern.
- Release the Call button and allow the device to complete the boot process.
- Once the device has finished booting, all settings will be restored to their factory default values.
NOTE: Do not disconnect power or network connectivity while the factory reset process is in progress.

¶ UAD Settings
1. Log in to the PBXware Web Administration Interface
- Open a new browser window and enter the PBXware IP address to access the administration login screen. Example:
http://192.168.1.10 - Log in using your PBXware e-mail address and password.
2. UAD settings
- Navigate to Settings > UAD
- Ensure that the Algo 8201 is enabled. To check the UAD status, click the Edit icon corresponding to the Algo device.
- Verify that Status is set to Active, Auto provisioning is set to No, and DHCP is set to Yes.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
¶ Creating an Extension
1. Add Extension

Navigate to Extensions, then click Add Extension.

The standard options window will open.

Select the Algo 8201 device from the UAD dropdown menu.

In the Location field, select one of the following options:
- Local is for all Extensions registered on the LAN
- Remote is for all Extensions registered from remote networks, WAN, Internet etc.. -
Click the Next step button.
2. Extension Values
Enter values into the required fields:
REQUIRED FIELDS:
- Name
Enter a name for the Extension being created. Example: John Smith
Enter the e-mail address associated with this Extension. This e-mail address will receive all system notification messages. Example: john.smith@bicomsystems.com
- Click the Save button.
¶ Registering the Device
This section describes how to register the Algo 8201 using the Hostname or IP Address method.
¶ Hostname or IP Address
- Open a new browser window and enter the device's IP address in order to access the device's web administration interface login screen. Example:
http://192.168.1.22 - Navigate to Basic Settings > SIP
- Enter the following details into the respective fields.
REQUIRED FIELDS:
- SIP Domain
Enter the PBXware hostname or IP address.
Example for Hostname: voip.bicomsystems.com
Example for IP Address: 192.168.1.10
- SIP Extension
Enter the PBXware extension username. Example: 1003
- Authentication ID
Enter the PBXware extension username. Example: 1003
- Authentication Password
Enter the secret of the extension, as received in the e-mail associated with this extension. Example: _%Z4M3*Ts9y7 A password is generated automatically for each newly created extension.
- Display Name
Enter the extension number or a descriptive name for the extension. Example: John
- Click the Save button.
¶ Auto Provisioning
This section describes how to set UAD settings, create a PBXware Extension, and register the device using DHCP or Static IP address.

¶ UAD Settings
1. Log in to PBXware's web administration interface
- Open a browser window and enter the PBXware IP address to access the web administration login screen. Example:
http://192.168.1.10 - Log in to PBXware with your e-mail address and password
2. UAD settings
- Navigate to Settings > UAD
- Ensure that the Algo 8201 device is enabled. To check the UAD status, click the Edit icon corresponding to the Algo device.
- Verify that Status is set to Active, Auto provisioning is set to Yes, and DHCP is set to Yes.
- Click the Save button.

2. Extension values

- Auto Provisioning
Set to Yes.
- MAC Address
Enter the MAC address of the Algo device. Example: 001565FF1536
NOTE: The MAC address can be found on the label at the back of the device.
- Click Save.
¶ Registering the Device
This section describes how to register the Algo device using TFTP, HTTP, or HTTPS provisioning.
¶ HTTP or HTTPS
- Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the Algo device. Example:
http://192.168.1.22 - Log in to the device using the administrator credentials. The default password is algo.
- Navigate to Advanced Settings > Provisioning.
- Set Server Method to Static.
- After selecting Static, the Static Server field will become available.
- In the Static Server field, enter the hostname or IP address of the PBXware server. Example:
192.168.1.10 - In the Download Method field, select the provisioning protocol that will be used for auto provisioning. Example: HTTP
- Enter the PBXware Auto Provisioning username and password into the Auth User Name and Auth Password fields.
- In the Config Download Path field, enter prov.
- Click Save.
- Reboot the device to apply the changes.
- Wait for the provisioning process to complete. Note: Do not power off the device during the provisioning process.
- During the reboot process, the device will automatically download its configuration from the PBXware.
- Once the configuration has been downloaded successfully, the device will register with PBXware.
¶ Extension to Dial
After the Algo 8201 has been registered, configure the extension number that will be dialed when the button is pressed. This can be configured either through the device web interface or by using the Additional Configuration feature in PBXware.
¶ Configuring the Extension to Dial via the Web Interface
- Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the Algo device. Example:
http://192.168.1.22 - Log in using the administrator credentials. The default password is algo.
- Navigate to Basic Settings > SIP.
- In the Extension to Dial field, enter the extension number that should be called when the call button is pressed.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
¶ Configuring the Extension to Dial via Additional Configuration
The Extension to Dial parameter can also be provisioned through PBXware using the Additional Configuration feature.
- Add the appropriate configuration parameter to the User Agent General Auto Provisioning Template under Settings > UAD > Algo 8201, or directly to the extension in the UAD Auto Provisioning Template section.
- Use the following format:
dp.dest = <extension_number>
Example: dp.dest = 200
- When the call button is pressed, the device will dial the specified extension number.
¶ Additional Configuration Template
To include additional configuration for the Algo 8201, add the desired parameters to the User Agent General Auto Provisioning Template under Settings > UAD > Algo 8201, or add them directly to an Extension in the UAD Auto Provisioning Template section.
